Activision Unveils the New Call of Duty Game

Call of Duty is back, with another instalment of the popular and extremely long-running series being released in October 2019. It’s titled Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, and, as the name suggests, is a reboot of the Modern Warfare story arc. A Brief History of the Call of Duty Franchise The first Call of Duty game was released way back in 2003. It was called Call of Duty, was set in World War II (as all first-person shooters were back then), and was released on PC. It was a great game, but no one predicted it would spawn so many sequels and spin-offs. Call of Duty 2 was released in 2005, and there has been a Call of Duty game released every year since then. The Modern Warfare titles, set in the present day, have been the best-received games in the series. Which explains Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. What to Expect From Call of Duty: Modern Warfare The new Modern Warfare is likely to be the most realistic Call of Duty game ever released. Infinity Ward, the developer responsible for

Activision reveals new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game coming in October

The Call of Duty franchise continues this year with a new title, which might seem very familiar to long-time fan of the series, Modern Warfare. A new Captain Price is now being played by actor Barry Sloane who's doing his own impression of the iconic character. If you haven't guessed by now, this is a reboot of one of the best games in the Call of Duty series, developed by the folks at Infinity Ward. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare launches October 25th and, unlike any of the previous titles, it will feature cross-platform support, which means players from all major platforms – PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will be able to play together. To make things even sweeter, Activision announced that the upcoming Call of Duty game won't have a season pass, but it will definitely offer a consistent single-player campaign, along with the usual multiplayer mode. “ This is an all-new Modern Warfare reimagined in every way. We are creating an emotionally charged experience that... ( re

How to Enable the Material Theme for Google Play Store on Android

Google has started the rollout of another major overhaul of its Play Store app, and this time the biggest change is the addition of the Material Theme. While the search giant is now gradually releasing the visual update to devices across the world, it could take a while until you receive it, so today I’m going to show you how to get it right now without waiting for the automatic rollout. First and foremost, let’s answer one key question: what does the Material Theme bring new to the Google Play Store? Well, everything has been redesigned to come in line with other products that have received this Material Theme overhaul, and the first change you’re going to notice is the upper part of the UI. The app bar no longer features accents colors, which is actually something that Google has previously used in order to distinguish one category from another. For example, apps and games used green, whereas audiobooks were blue. But beginning with this update, everything’s w... ( read mor

Apple Tops Wearable Sales but Huawei Is the Tech Giant to Watch

Apple continues to be the leader of the wearable market, according to new data provided by IDC, but troubled Huawei is the company to watch these days. IDC notes that Apple sold a total of 12.8 million units in the first quarter of 2019, up no less than 49.5% from the same quarter a year ago. This means Apple controls 25.8% of the wearable market, particularly thanks to the Apple Watch, whose latest generation is selling like hot cakes. Xiaomi was the runner-up in Q1 with 6.6 million sold units and 13.3% share, and the Chinese company is also growing at a fast pace, with a 68.2% shipment increase during the quarter. All eyes on Huawei But the star of the show is none other than Huawei, which is now trying to deal with a ban that doesn’t allow the company to use products developed by American firms. In the first quarter of the year, Huawei experienced a growth of no less than 282.2%, with its sales jumping from 1.3 million in Q1 2018 to no less t... ( read more )

Microsoft, Apple, Google Unite Against Ghost Spies in Messaging Apps

Government agencies trying to get access to user conversations on various platforms isn’t something entirely new, but last November, the British spies at GCHQ came up with a rather unique proposal. The organization required tech companies building messaging solutions to create what was described as a ghost agent that would be silently added to every conversation. The purpose, GCHQ said, was to catch the bad guys who rely on the strong encryption of these services to talk to each other without being exposed. No more privacy But in an open letter publish on Lawfare, a total of 47 organizations, including here tech companies like Microsoft, Google, and Apple, explain that the ghost member idea would substantially undermine user privacy, causing additional risks for those who connect to the platform. “The GCHQ’s ghost proposal creates serious threats to digital security: if implemented, it will undermine the authentication process that enables users... Win32 Survives Microsoft’s UWP Push One More Time

Microsoft has been pushing hard for UWP apps on its modern platform, as it hoped that the huge community of developers would abandon Win32 and support the expansion of the Microsoft Store. But despite all of its efforts to convince app makers to migrate to UWP with apps that would essentially target more than just one category of devices, and we include here not just PCs, but also phones, tablets, and Xbox consoles, this new approach has more or less failed, and Windows 10 users still stick with Win32 for the most part. As a result, Microsoft is making a step that everyone could see coming: the company allows developers to publish Win32 games in the Microsoft Store. Previously, the software giant required everyone to rebuild their apps and games as UWP before publishing in the Microsoft Store, and it offered several tools to support this transition. Back to Win32 But because of the adoption of this concept has remained low, Microsoft has no othe... ( read more )

iPhone Users Can Now Download Larger Apps Over Cellular

Apple has silently implemented a change in the App Store that’s likely to be well received by iPhone user with unlimited data plans. The company now allows us to download apps and games up to 200 MB using a cellular network. The older limit was 150 MB, and anything larger than this required a Wi-Fi connection. The increased cellular download limit covers any content that is published in the App Store, like apps, games, podcasts, and pretty much everything else. If a file is larger than the set limit, the following message is displayed on the iPhone: “App over 200 MB. Connect to a Wi-Fi network to download [app name].” No way to bypass the block While the idea behind this restriction makes sense, the way it’s implemented leaves a lot to be desired. Technically, Apple wants to prevent iPhones from downloading larger files on cellular networks in order to avoid extra charges for customers with limited data plans. But as read more )

Samsung Galaxy Note 10: No Power Button, No Headphone Jack, No Bixby Key

Samsung Galaxy Note 10 will introduce some pretty huge design changes that the South Korean company could then expand to other models too, including the Galaxy S11 due in early 2020. A report from AndroidPolice and citing sources familiar with Samsung’s plans reveals that the Galaxy Note 10 could come without a headphone jack. While this is likely to cause a certain amount of criticism from fans who expected Samsung to resist this trend, the Note 10 is likely to come with just an USB Type-C connector that can be used for both charging and listening to music. However, Samsung will push harder for the adoption of wireless headphones, especially after the launch of the Galaxy Buds earlier this year. The headphone jack won’t be the only feature getting the axe on the Galaxy Note 10, as Samsung also wants to remove the physical volume and powe... ( read more )

Huawei Back in Android Q Beta Testing Program

Huawei has officially returned to the list of brands allowed to test the Android Q beta builds on their devices. Google previously removed Huawei from the Android Q beta page, most likely following the executive order signed by US President Donald Trump earlier this month. According to the order, Huawei is no longer allowed to do any business with American companies, therefore it can’t use their products for the manufacturing of new devices. These include Android and Windows, the two operating systems that Huawei uses on smartphones and PCs. As a result, it was believed that Google removing Huawei from the Android Q beta program page was a consequence of the ban. However, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is once against listed on that website, which gives hope that An... ( read more )

Download NVIDIA’s New Quadro Graphics Driver - Version 392.53

NVIDIA has made available a new version of its Quadro graphics driver, namely 392.53, which adds security updates for driver components, and might also include small fixes and performance improvements over previous releases. Still, know that this release might experience flashing when the monitor is connected to a second GPU, crashes or BSODs when enabling WARP while Mosaic and Quadro Sync are on, as well as flickering in Eyeon Fusion app. When it comes to compatibility, version 392.53 is suitable for both desktop and notebook configurations that are powered by one of Microsoft’s Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10 platforms (only for 64-bit architectures). Moreover, NVIDIA has also made available separate packages targeted at Windows Server 2008 R2, Server 2012, Server 2012 R2, and Server 2016 operating systems; however, make sure your hardware is supported on these OSes (search for your GPU model on the description page). Therefore, if you intend to apply this package, sa... ( read more

Sony PlayStation 4 Firmware 6.70 Is Up for Grabs - Download Now

Today, Sony has made available its 6.70 firmware package developed for PlayStation 4 gaming consoles, which should improve the device’s overall performance. However, it would be best if you apply it on your Sony console and find out for yourself what the changes are. To do so, save the downloadable .PUP file on your local storage, create a “PS4/UPDATE” path onto a FAT32-formatted USB stick and store the firmware there. Now, just insert the stick into your PlayStation 4 system and make sure it’s turned off. Afterward, press and hold the Power button for at least 7 seconds so that it can enter safe mode, navigate to the Update System Software section, and follow all instructions as the console will guide you through the installation. Still, bear in mind that removing the USB drive, turning the console off, making use of any of its buttons, or interrupting the upgrade in any way might cause serious device malfunctions or even render it unusable. Last but not least, ... ( read more

MacBook Pro Catches Fire Like a… Samsung Galaxy Note 7

Smartphones overheating and eventually catching fire aren’t very common these days, but they aren’t surprising news either, especially after the Samsung Galaxy Note 7 saga. But on the other hand, a laptop exploding all of a sudden while being used is certainly something that you don’t see very often. And when the laptop is made by Apple, the whole thing becomes even more alarming for everyone. The MacBook Pro used by DJ White Panda caught fire while being used on his lap plugged in, “spewing smoke out both sides,” as he explains in a detailed posting on reddit . While fortunately no one was injured, the fire caused some damage to White Panda’s home and triggered the smoke and CO alarms. After taking the smoking laptop outside and letting it cool down for approximately an hour, the owner took it to the local Apple Store, with the staff there putting the devic... ( read more )

Microsoft Edge Dev 76.0.172.0 for Windows 10 Released

Microsoft has released the weekly update for the Chromium-based Microsoft Edge Dev channel, bringing the browser to version 76.0.172.0. This new update introduces a series of important fixes, including for a bug that caused Microsoft Edge to crash on launch. In fact, this particular issue blocked the previous release for the Dev channel, as Microsoft discovered that the browser might no longer be able to start on a series of devices after installing the update. Today’s update comes to resolve this problem, so everything is back to normal. Additionally, update 76.0.172.0 also targets a second crash experienced when viewing settings in the InPrivate mode, as well as a glitch blocking the first launch experience if the user isn’t connected to the Internet. In terms of new features, there are only subtle changes here, but they come in very handy to Edge users. New features First and foremost, Microsoft has changed the behavior of pinned websites wh... Windows Terminal YouTube Video Removed by Google Due to Copyright Infringement

Windows Terminal is one of the most exciting new features coming to Windows 10, and after the official announcement at the Build developer conference, the official video published on YouTube recorded more than 1 million views. And because Windows Terminal is an unreleased feature due to become available in June for insiders, users head over to YouTube to see what it’s up to. Only that those looking for the YouTube video these days end up getting an error because the video was removed due to… copyright infringement. While it sounds pretty odd for a company the size of Microsoft to have a YouTube video pulled because of a copyright claim, the message posted on the page says it loud and clear. “This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Musicbed.” Video likely to be restored Needless to say, the copyright claim concerns the audio track of the video, albeit you wouldn’t ex... Uber Will Now Ban Riders for Bad Ratings

If you regularly use Uber and want to carry on doing so you need to start behaving better. This is because Uber has announced it’s going to start banning riders who maintain a bad rating. Which would prevent you from using Uber the next time you need a ride. Uber Asks for Safety and Respect for All In a post on the Uber Newsroom , Uber has announced a new effort to ensure “safety and respect for all”. This essentially involves Uber refreshing its Community Guidelines , and insisting everyone confirm that they’ve read and understood the rules. However, beyond educating people about the behavior expected from people using the service, Uber is also introducing “Ratings-Based Rider Deactivations”. Which, as the name suggests, introduces the possibility of riders being deactivated for low ratings. Drivers and riders both have ratings assigned, with riders rating drivers and vice versa. Drivers have always faced the risk of being deactivated due to low ratings. However, riders haven’t

Google Maps Now Warns You About Speed Traps

Google is adding the location of speed traps to Google Maps. This means drivers will be warned when approaching a speed camera. Google is also adding speed limits to Google Maps. These will be displayed in the app, leaving drivers with no excuses for speeding. How to Locate Speed Traps in Google Maps Speed traps will appear as icons on the roads themselves. This mainly applies to stationary speed cameras for obvious reasons. However, Android users will be able to report the locations of mobile speed cameras to warn their fellow drivers to proceed with caution. Speed limits will appear in the bottom corner of the app, giving drivers a second way of checking the speed limit besides watching for road signs. The only problem is the need to look at your phone to see the speed limit, forcing you to take your eyes off the road. Pull a car over for speeding. Me: Do you know what the speed limits is? Driver: 60….but I was doing 70 because I have to poo. Me: It’s actually 50 and you wer

FOCI: This Tiny Wearable Helps Improve Your Ability to Focus

This sounds like something out of a science fiction movie , but there’s actually a wearable device out there that can help you focus. It seems like nonsense, but the folks at the Tinylogics Team have created a device called FOCI that promises to keep you on task just by clipping a small device close to your body. FOCI – How Does It Work? At its core, FOCI is able to monitor your breathing patterns. While that’s cool, it’s not particularly useful unless it’s able to do something with the information gleaned from that info. The tiny wearable promises to be able to take the information from your breathing patterns and use that to understand what’s happening inside your head. It can read six different mind states—distracted, fatigued, calm, focus, flow, and stress—and let you know which one you’re experiencing at that time through its app. If you’re trying to focus and you become distracted, FOCI will vibrate, giving you a reminder that you need to stay on task. Also, if you’re close
