Instagram Will Feature Giving Tuesday Donors in a Shared Story

In celebration of Giving Tuesday, Instagram plans on highlighting its users' acts of kindness. Any users who use the donation sticker on the platform will get featured in a shared Giving Tuesday Story that's visible to their followers.

Instagram Shines a Spotlight on Kindness

Giving Tuesday is a day when people can help those in need in the form of donations, food or clothing drives, and simple acts of kindness.

When Giving Tuesday arrives on December 1, 2020, Instagram will highlight its users for participating. The platform announced the update in a post on the About Instagram blog.

If you follow users who use the I Donated or Donation sticker, their posts will appear in a shared Story at the beginning of your Stories bar. This way, you can check out who has donated to a good cause, as well as who's collecting donations for charity.

Instagram will also feature kind-hearted users on both its @instagram and @creators accounts. More specifically, it will highlight "a number of creators who are helping make a difference in their community." It will also share tips on how you can help out, "whether it's through volunteering, making donations or simply making a kind gesture to someone in need."

Not only is Instagram encouraging its users to donate to a good cause on Giving Tuesday, but it also aims to help small businesses all-year-round. Instagram has introduced Support Small Business and Buy Black stickers that can help draw attention to certain businesses on the Shopping portion of the app.

The platform is also testing "a more permanent way" of creating and sharing fundraisers for nonprofit organizations. Soon, users will be able to highlight an eligible nonprofit in their post, and link their followers directly to the fundraiser.

All of this is part of Facebook's larger plan to help users give back to their community. Facebook has launched its Season of Giving campaign in time for the holidays, and has even rolled out a new feature called Drives. Drives appear on Facebook's Community Help page, and allow users to collect canned goods, clothes, and other necessities for the needy.

Social Media Does Its Part for the Community

Hopefully, all of this kindness doesn't disappear after the holidays. With both Facebook and Instagram rolling out a permanent way to donate to good causes, it's certain that we'll see more acts of kindness in the future.

Let's not forget that even TikTok has joined in on the fundraising trend, as the platform has also begun testing a feature that lets users raise money for charity.
